How to Use Virtual Backgrounds in MS Teams and Zoom

This tech tip demonstrates how to utilize a virtual background in Microsoft Teams and in Zoom. The purpose of having a virtual background is to ensure privacy so people in your virtual meeting cannot see what is around you or recognize where you are.

 

To select a virtual background in MS Teams:

1. Enter your meeting
2. Click the down arrow beside your camera icon
3. Select a background of your choosing or using standard blur as shown in the following.

If you would like to add your own background, click More video effects and settings.
Click Add New to upload a saved image

To select a virtual background in Zoom:

1. Enter the meeting
2. Click the arrow beside your Video icon
3. Choose Video and Effect Settings:

4. Click on a virtual background of your choice from the options.

If you want to upload your own image of a background, click on the blue + sign and click Add image

Select your image and click open to upload your image
