Making QR Codes Accessible

QR codes may present a challenge for those who have coordination issues. This tech tip will focus on how to create a clickable QR Code so all the user needs to do is click on the QR Code or an alternative hyperlink next to the image.

To make a QR code accessible in D2L, do the following:

1. Save the QR Code as an image.
2. Insert the Image using the Insert Image icon on the D2L Editor toolbar
Note: For individuals with low vision, put a black border around the QR code

3. Browse to and add the image:

Add a File textbox

4. Provide details that the image is a QR code for a specific website

5. Add the actual link of the QR code.
6. Click Save and Close

To create a QR Code in the desktop version of MS Word:

1. Insert the QR Code image in line with text in the document

2. Add an alternative descriptive live link such as

QR Code for AI Careers Event Registration 

3. Right click on the QR Code and select Link:

4. Enter the link into the Address text box, then click OK:
