Preserving a Course from Being Purged

On July 1st, D2L will purge courses from Spring 2018

A course purge means that courses are permanently deleted from the system.

D2L only keeps course courses that are from the past six semesters. However, if you want to keep your courses intact for future use you can.   Keeping your courses involves exporting your course to a ZIP file.

To export your course to a ZIP file do the following:

From your D2L Brightspace course homepage:

Click on the course you would like to export and then do the following:

  • Click Course Admin
  • The Course Administration page is displayed. Under the Site Resources section heading, click the Import/Export/Copy Components option:
  • Select “Export Components”
    • Ensure that “Include course files in the export package” is checked
  • Click the “Start” Button
  • Check “Select All Components”
  • Click the “Continue” Button
  • Click the “Continue” button again
    • Ensure that “Include course files in the export package” is checked
  • Click the “Finish” button
  • Click the link to download the Zip File to your computer
  • Click the “Done” button
  • Save the ZIP file to a safe location.

To Import a D2L Course to a site from a saved location on your computer:

  • From inside the course, click “Course Admin”
  • Click the “Import / Export / Copy Components” Link
  • Click “Import Components”
    • Ensure that “from a course package” is selected
