Course Design Institute
June 6-23

The Third Annual IHCC/DCTC Annual Course Design Institute is happening right now! This is an amazing learning opportunity for faculty at both colleges. This year’s program features faculty sharing their own courses, talking about what they have learned while teaching online (synchronously, asynchronously, hybrid, and hyflex), and what online elements they plan to keep in place as they transition back to instruction on campus. The Institute is being delivered in a flexible format again this year, giving participants the option of joining synchronously, asynchronously, or accessing a full archive of the Institute and materials after it ends on June 23.

All registrants will receive access to the D2L course shell housing this year’s Course Design Institute, where they will be able to access synchronous sessions and participate in real time. Each session includes a Q&A component and the CDI will provide other opportunities for faculty participants to engage with their colleagues as well as with session content.
Course Design Resources
The Faculty Resources site contains a collection of resources to assist faculty with the design of online courses. Our Course Design page has instructions for accessing the Course Design Template and archives of past Course Design Institutes. The 2021 Course Design Institute, for example, was focused on Universal Design for Learning and contains many helpful guides for faculty. You’ll also find a link to the checklist to use prior to starting a new semester.
Upcoming CTL Open Labs and Consultations
CTL Open Lab sessions and consultations are available all summer to provide just-in-time assistance to faculty. Participate in our Open Lab any Tuesday between 12:30 and 1:30 and schedule a consultation with CTL staff for a time that fits your schedule: https://facultyresources.oneboldfuture.com/faculty-resources/programs-services/consultations.
Digital Learning Labs
Did you know you can book time in the Digital Learning Lab? Reserve the Digital Learning Lab in Outlook by making a new meeting and inviting either Room2104@dctc.edu or fa250@inverhills.edu to that meeting. Add Jamie Lewis (IHCC), Chad Anderson (DCTC), or Martin Springborg (either college) to the meeting invitation if you would like a CTL staff member to assist you. Career and Technical Education: The Heart of Minnesota’s Workforce

The 2022 theme emphasizes the importance of CTE to Minnesota’s workforce. CTE is at the heart because it teaches the skills that give students opportunities for in-demand careers critical to our state. The students developing these workplace skills now will be the foundation of Minnesota’s workforce tomorrow. Teachers, staff members, coordinators, and workforce partners in our state play a vital role in CTE. Thus, the 2022 Summit prioritizes leadership, professional development, and health and well-being because a healthy workforce is good for everyone.

This annual Summit is planned by committee members comprised of educators from Minnesota State, Minnesota Department of Education, and Perkins Consortium Leaders in partnership with Alexandria Technical College. It has continued to grow over the years into the premier conference connecting the career and technical education community in the Upper Midwest. Participants and presenters alike come from high school, colleges and universities, workforce, local business and industry partners, and our local communities to convene once a year to share best practices in their field, network, and continue their professional development.
Teaching Social Action Summer ‘22 Institute

The Bonner Foundation is pleased to announce that they are hosting a virtual Teaching Social Action Summer ‘22 Institute on June 28-30. This three-day institute will introduce faculty and staff to an approach for incorporating social action campaigns into either a semester-long course or co-curricular workshop series. In this transformative experiential learning model, students develop and launch a social action campaign of their choosing during the semester the course is taught. The student campaigns seek to change a rule, regulation, norm, or practice of an institution, whether on campus or in the community.

These opportunities are designed by Minnesota State faculty and staff for Minnesota State faculty and staff and help build awareness, develop knowledge, skills, and abilities, and provide space for reflecting and revising.

| · Course Review – Student Perspective: This service is available to faculty who want their course reviewed from a student perspective. After booking, you’ll meet with a member of the CTL team about your course. They will then view the course as a student and compile feedback and suggestions designed to increase student success in the course. Please allow at least one week for feedback to be compiled.
· Class Visits: This service is available to faculty members who want a member of the CTL to come to their class and engage students in their academic technology. Potential topics could include using Outlook Email, navigating D2L, using and downloading O365 to student devices, or simply an introduction and explanation of technology supports on campus for students. This booking is available for both in-person and virtual meetings. Please specify the location, desired topic, and any other important details in the description of this form. · Starfish Referrals: Do you have students who are struggling with their academic technology? Advisors, Coaches, and Instructors can now make a “Learning Technology Support” referral in Starfish. After making the referral, students will get an email encouraging them to set up an appointment, and members of the CTL team will get a flag to reach out to the student to offer guidance and support on the technology need. |
· Tutorials available 24/7 on the CTL Student Resources Website: Tutorials (both written and video) are available on topics including D2L, Outlook and Office 365, Zoom, and other academic technologies.
· Available for One-on-One Appointments on Starfish: Students can book appointments through Starfish using this link. · Open Lab Hours at both DCTC and Inver Hills: Available throughout the semester, both for appointments and walk-in questions. Please refer to the linked page for the most up-to-date times, dates, and locations for Open Lab Hours. · In-Person and Virtual Programs: Running throughout the semester at both campuses. Topics can include An Introduction to Student’s Digital Tools on Campus, Online Learning Tips and Tricks, D2L Navigation Help, and more.
